Why I chose Animas High School
I chose Animas mainly because it is a project based learning environment. I liked the idea of a project based school because I like hands on work and making projects instead of working out of a text book. The two years before high school I went to Mountain Middle School which was a project based learning environment and I really enjoyed going to Mountain. The difference between a large public school and a project based school is the type of work that is being created. In a larger public school students aren’t getting the attention that they need to create beautiful work. They are just given a text book and asked to complete the following page. Unlike a project based school where you get enough personal attention to the point that the teachers are pushing you to go above and beyond the expectations of your work; and the students are also given the chance to create hands on collaborative projects.
Also I thought that the social aspect would be better at a smaller school than a larger public school where students are categorized and try to fit in with the crowd. At Animas the students are all themselves and don’t feel peer pressured to act a specific way. Personally I think that Animas is a great school for students with the desire to have a strong connection with the students, teachers, and their work.
